Coworking is a workplace trend that appears to be sweeping the country and the world at a rapid speed. But what does it mean?
According to Google, ‘coworking’ is “the use of an office or other working environment by people who are self-employed or working for different employers, typically so as to share equipment, ideas, and knowledge.” In other words, ‘coworking’ means sharing a work space with someone who may be in a different field than you or work for a different company.
How Does it Work?
Different coworking buildings choose to tackle this question in different ways. Some workspaces offer large, open spaces with community tables where freelancers and others can pick a spot for the day and hunker down on their laptops. Some spaces offer more modular options, like private work booths, acoustic-dampening cubbies, or a mix of small tables and booths. Some coworking spaces have chosen to blend the new style of coworking with the more traditional workspace option of having a private office and just offer the two options at different prices. There are many ways to make a coworking space work well for those wanting to work from them. Setting up workspaces in this way allows people to mingle, bounce ideas off one another, have clients in for meetings, and so on.
What does WORX BHM Offer?
WORX BHM has two different buildings, and we offer a mix of membership options! For those looking for a more casual option, we have a coworking membership that allows members space at our large coworking table to sit and work. The next level up offers a slightly more permanent option: a dedicated desk. Like the coworking option, members are in open-air working areas, but they have one desk that is only theirs. These members are able to leave a few things at the office in locking storage, but do not have their own private office with a door to close during the day. However, they are always guaranteed the same desk and workspace every time they come in. Lastly, we offer an array of private offices. The offices range in size from small 1-person offices up to large offices that can fit upwards of 3 people. The range in size allows many different types of businesses to successfully work out of our building.
